1. Getting started
  1. Download the game from the main page (link coming soon) and unpack it.
  2. Run the game and press Log in with Discord (or Register with Discord the first time).
  3. Your browser opens. Approve the login there.
  4. Back in the game, create a captain, pick a ship and set sail.

The game is in early testing. Expect bugs and tell us about them on Discord.

2. Logging in with Discord

There are no passwords in Waybound Online. You prove who you are through your Discord account, and the game never sees your Discord password.

  • Register with Discord: creates your game account (once per Discord account).
  • Log in with Discord: use this every time after that.
  • Phone / QR code: the browser page can show a QR code. Scan it with the Discord app on your phone to approve the login.
  • You have 3 minutes to approve after pressing the button. If it times out, press the button again.
3. I had an old account with a password

Use Link an old account to Discord, enter your old account name and password once, and approve with Discord. After that you log in with Discord only. One Discord account can be linked to one game account.

4. Ships, ammo and combat basics
  • Round shot damages the hull, chain shot tears the sails, grape shot hits the crew.
  • Ramming: a better ram hits harder, but your own ship takes damage too.
  • Buy and sell goods in ports, keep provisions stocked and your sailors fit for the voyage.

You need a free Discord account (the same one you use to log in to the game). Please search the existing topics first, and be kind to other players.

5. FAQ

Is the game free?
Yes, early testing is free.

Windows says "unknown publisher".
The game is made by an independent developer and is not signed yet. Choose "More info" and then "Run anyway" only if you downloaded it from the official page.

"This Discord already has an account".
Use Log in with Discord instead of Register.

"This Discord has no account yet".
Use Register with Discord first.

"outdated version".
Download the newest version of the game from the main page.

The browser says "connection refused" after I approve.
You waited more than 3 minutes. Press the Discord button in the game again.

"Too many wrong attempts".
You entered a wrong password several times when linking an old account. Wait 10 minutes.
